A recent article in the BBC news, Exporting Grandma to care homes abroad , describes how a middle aged daughter in Switzerland chose to send her 91 year old mother with dementia to a care home in Thailand, where quality care is much more affordable. Her reasons included that her mother has dementia and doesn’t really know where she is and that she is happy and well taken care of there. Her mother became too difficult for the daughter to continue caring for her at home. She can get a lot more care for the money in Thailand than she can in Switzerland.

The Tradition: The Holy Grail was a vessel used by Christ at the Last Supper. Given to his grand-uncle, St. Joseph of Arimathea, it was used by him to collect Christ's blood and sweat while Joseph tended him on the Cross.

The Sacra Culla, or Holy Crib, is reserved for veneration in a silver reliquary by Giuseppe ...
Many scholars, however, place the origin of the presepio tradition in the thirteenth century. In 1223 Saint Francis of Assisi commissioned Giovanni Vellita from the town of Greccio to build a large-scale manger scene for the faithful to venerate on the anniversary of the Christ’s birth. Vellita therefore constructed a three-dimensional nativity scene out of straw in a cave of Greccio and Saint Francis had Christmas Mass celebrated there that year. According to the various accounts, Francis also used real people and living animals to illustrate the revered event.

A good showerhead is supposed to deliver a satisfying jet of water. But if you have not changed or at least cleaned the showerhead in your bathroom for a long time, it could be adding a blast of bacteria along with the water.
It gets murkier.
The bacteria on the head of the shower can cling together and form what is called a “biofilm” — a slimy cluster of microorganisms. Sounds refreshing, huh?

You might know something about the birds and the bees, but did you know the bees have been having a fling with the orchids? The vivid, vibrant little flowers give what amount to come-hither looks to bees.
Some even emit an aroma — a kind of Givenchy for male bees — that tricks the bees into thinking that the orchid is a female bee who finds them irresistible.

This might be one of the most nasty facts on live animals I have yet printed. Chinese footway sellers have a short time ago begun vending animals wrapped inside sealed packaging as keyring ornaments! Anybody cruel enough to buy one of these ornaments inside a sealed plastic bag with some quantity of colorful water. One product promotor claimed that the animals could be alive as long as numerous months because the pouch water comprises “food” – a claim that is implausible at best.

Can't make it through the morning without your daily java? Try brewing some green tea, which has slightly less caffeine than a cup of Joe but enough to give you a boost without any of the coffee jitters. The refreshing drink is also packed with health benefits, says Nadine Taylor, registered dietitian and author of Green Tea: The Natural Secret to a Healthier Life. “Catechins are powerful antioxidants and potent disease fighters that are found primarily in green tea,” she says.

When people think about "energy" drinks, they're usually referring to products that contain caffeine. The problem is that most "energy drinks" are loaded with too much caffeine and sugar, so while they may give you a short-term burst of energy, you'll ultimately crash and just want to zonk out. When you need a brain boost, you're better off sipping green tea or snacking on a handful of walnuts. (Click here to see 10 more foods that boost brainpower).

My nutritionist, Keri Gans, says you should add as many vegetables into each of your meals as possible in order to benefit from a high-fiber diet. Here are some of her top tricks for sneaking those veggies in:
Start every meal with a salad. Use your favorite colorful veggies, such as spinach, tomatoes, red and yellow bell peppers, carrots, etc. Use oil and vinegar for dressing on the side, or buy a healthy vinaigrette dressing and limit your serving size to 2 tablespoons.
Keep baby carrots and celery on hand for snacks, and pair them withhummus or black bean dip.
Keep frozen vegetables in your freezer. When you run out of fresh veggies, you can pop a bag in the microwave.
Cut up mushrooms, onions, spinach, or other veggies and keep them in sandwich bags in your fridge so you can grab them in the morning and throw them into your egg whites (or eggs) for a healthy omelet.
Buy fresh zucchini and squash, slice them up, drizzle with olive oil, salt, pepper, basil and oregano and roast them in your oven for 20 minutes at 400 degrees. You can separate them into appropriate portions and enjoy them all week!

The brain is affected by factors we don’t always look into in our daily lives. Everything from the food we eat, the little bad habits we’ve formed over the years, and extent to which we use the brain: all these factors play a role in the development of our mental power, sometimes boosting our intelligence and sometimes lowering it. Certain habits have been known to lower intelligence by killing brain cells or promoting mental stagnation but luckily you can learn how not to destroy your most vital organ by avoiding these bad habits.
In order to experience a heightened state of brain function, make sure you avoid habits that inhibit mental health and learn new ways to promote brain function. Any positive change is sure to reflect in you regardless of how many bad habits you have; so start by learning what kills your brain.
